Mod your Bike
To revise, reshape, refashion, restyle, revamp, rework, remodel, refine your bike.
The waiting is over its finally time to dust off that neglected two wheel wonder and pedal down to the knitting club. While we won't be trying to re-design the wheel just yet (unless you really want to.) We will however be investigating weird and wonderful ways you can add LEDs, electroluminescent wire, sound devices, reflective devices and so much more to your bicycle... Be safe Be seen!
For those of you who really love pedaling we will be running a bike jenny work shop to illustrate how to generate electricity from a old bicycle and car alternator, this simple design could be modified to allow you to have an electricly assisted bicycle to help navigate those rolling hills of Clare, check out our bike jenny page.
one of the suggested mod's is to light your bike using super bright LED's (light emitting diodes) to create persistence of vision (POV) on bicycle wheels. We will be ordering some of adfruits POV kits before the end of the month. Ladyada's kits are open source and lots of fun, A really fun introduction to programming that has stunning visual effects, helping you to be safely seen on dark winter nights. This is a project in the early stages, open to young and old alike (though younger attendees must be accompanied by at least half an adult) There is a discount for bulk orders as well as savings on shipping so if your interested e mail us (info(at)theknittingclub.net)
